Miguelito’s Confessions

A Novel

The false childhood memories of Miguelito become fused and confused with the mythologies of the African Yoruba Pantheon. Underlining the story is a deeper struggle of sacrifices Latinx immigrants and refugees make to assimilate to the dominant Anglo culture. Specifically the death of the imaginary country left behind, the death of their cultural roots, and the death of their gods. What is legitimized and normalized by the discrimination and institutional violence the de la Cruz family is forced to face? Miguelito might survive in his new adopted country, but at what price?
